BIO
From her day job as a teacher to a songwriter and performer in her down time, Ruth has poured her soul into both. Country music is at the heart of who she is and has been since she was a very little girl.
Ruth is the youngest of five and she was born into a singing sister group called the “Best Girls” with her sisters Di, Judy and Kim. Their father had a love for music and he was their biggest supporter. He drove his girls to concerts and events all around the Annapolis Valley so that he could show them off.
With the loss of her father as a teenager and as her sisters’ interests changed, Ruth began to find the courage to sing on her own. She was the shyest child in her family, but the desire to sing for an audience definitely changed that.
Since the 1990s, Ruth has been a part of several bands and has extended her music family. In 2016, it was time for Ruth to start her own band where she could showcase her own music along with the great country cover songs that she sang. Ruth Manning and the Prospectors was formed that year and continues today as a tight, five-piece band with a professional sound. The group loves performing at festivals, community events, concerts and more. Band members include Joel LeBreton on lead guitar and vocals, Bob McDonald on steel, Andy Quinlan on bass and vocals, Scott Redden on drums and Ruth as lead vocalist, piano and acoustic guitar.
Ruth has been recording music since 2008 and has released seven full albums. All of these projects include many songs penned by Ruth herself. Her original music tells the stories of real life, both happy and sad, many of them depicting Ruth’s experiences with happiness and grief. Currently, she is working on her latest album to be released in the spring of 2026. She is excited to share some upbeat toe tappers and some emotional ballads with her incredible fans.
The Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Famer is an award-winning songwriter and singer both nationally and internationally, but her biggest win is having so many friends that she has met through music. Her music community is a large, extended family and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
